Book Cover

About This Project

For this assignment, I was asked to redesign a book cover for a novel of my choice, including an original illustration and a complete visual layout. I chose Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro because of its haunting, emotional tone and strong themes of childhood, memory, and loss.

I began by researching existing covers and analyzing the mood of the novel. I wanted my design to feel soft but unsettling, reflecting the innocence of the characters alongside the darker reality of their world. I created my own illustration of children walking outside a school, symbolizing both their youth and the controlled environment they live in.

My color palette was kept minimal: black and light pink. The pink added a delicate, almost nostalgic feeling, while the black grounded the design and hinted at the novel’s darker themes. For typography, I chose a clean, readable cursive display font that matched the quiet, reflective tone of the story.

I arranged the elements to keep the illustration central, with balanced spacing and a clear visual hierarchy. The final cover combines my illustration, the limited palette, and simple typography to create a design that feels emotional, atmospheric, and true to the themes of Never Let Me Go.
